I hate to just throw up a link to someone else’s work and call it a day, but that’s what I’m going to do. It’s a funny article from a great site, and it’s surprisingly informative. It’ll make you laugh, and then think…
Eventually the term “missing link” is going to have to be retired: it seems like every couple of weeks one of such links is filled in. Here’s another one.
Pretty soon it’s going to look like a flip book. But still, people will completely deny that evolution is a real thing. Check it out for yourself.
I have watched countless mainstream media pundits, television evangelists, and hundreds of websites claiming that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has threatened to “wipe Israel off the map”. Now before anyone goes any further, I’m not Islamic, nor do I read the Qur’an, and I’m not associated with, or have any part of “radical Islam”. I just like to make sure what I’m being fed is the truth. Now lets get by all the mainstream propaganda and take a close look at what Mr. Ahmadinejad said. In 2005, he gave a speech in Asia where he was quoted saying ” بايد از صفحه روزگار محو شود “. Now after doing some research, and some rough translating, I’ve learned a few things: half of what Mr. Ahmadinejad said were idioms, the other half were in no way saying “wipe Israel off the map”. The words ” از صفحه ” mean new page in Arabic. He is talking about the Zionist regime that is controlling Israel. He hopes the regime will collapse and be wiped off the pages of history, in other words. There are no known Persian idioms that would have allowed Mr. Ahmadinejad to possibly make that statement. This translation should have looked like this: “the regime occupying Israel/Jerusalem (een rezhim-e eshghalgar-e qods) must [dissapear/be wiped from] the page of time (bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad). Although this was nearly 4 years ago, there are still talks of a US/Israeli preventative attack on Iran. Israel has contemplated multiple times whether launching an air strike on Tehran’s nuclear facility was necessary.
So here is my question to you…What did the Iranian President say and what should Israel do about this situation?
Unless you’re a soldier, or gay.
These people use a six-degrees-of-Kevin-Baconesque method to somehow decide that they hate soldiers. I’m going to try and lay out the logic. Gays are bad (because Jesus said so), some states allow gay marriages (three out of fifty right now, but who’s counting?), those states are part of the United States of America, and soldiers defend the United States of America, therefore, soldiers are bad.
That’s not six degrees, that’s only four. They screwed up, the rules are six, SIX degrees, four is just stupid. I’ll finish it for them: the soldiers are paid through taxes, and these idiots pay taxes. Holy crap, they are sinful agents of the devil by their own logic! Don’t worry Westboro Baptists, I’ve got a solution for you. Move. Move somewhere far away, where there are no gays and no soldiers. May I recommend the North Pole? You may even run into Jesus’ good friend Santa Claus. You can probably get a free ride with any branch of the US armed forces; I’m sure they wouldn’t mind dropping you off there.
Despite the crumbling American economy, the price of a college education continues to rise. The average annual tuition cost at a four year private college in 2009 is $25,143 a year. That’s more than one hundred thousand dollars for a bachelor’s degree. My question to you is, what are you paying for? Is it the education, or the piece of paper? In the information age, a person can learn almost anything they would like with just a few searches. Even without the internet, a trip to a well stocked public library is enough to at least arm you with the tools you need to gain the knowledge. But without a degree, it’s nearly impossible to get your foot in the door. What are you going to put on your resume, “I didn’t go to college, but I read a bunch of books”?
What do you think? If you had to choose, which would it be. Would you take the degree without the understanding, or would you learn the information without the piece of paper? Which would realistically give you a better chance for success? Vote below, and tell me why you’d go one way or the other in the comments.
It looks like the swine flu scare is finally dieing down. Now the main stream media is going to have to find a new hype machine to take the focus away from the real dangers in America. The swine flu has caused less than a dozen deaths in the United States: the original flu kills more in one day. Still, neither of these can touch the amount of damage done by one chemical compound; one that none of these so called “journalists” want to warn you about. I’m talking about dihydrogen monoxide.
A couple of years ago, I came across an article on Forbes.com making predictions as to which major cities will disappear by the year 2100. Mexico City will sink into the sea, Naples will be destroyed by a nearby volcano, and then there’s Detroit. In case you’re not familiar with the geographic details of Detroit, it’s not near a fault line, it doesn’t get hit by hurricanes, and there are no deserts anywhere near it. Detroit will not disappear because of anything mother nature has in store for it, but simply because everybody will leave.
I know Detroit is bad, but is it really that bad? Bad enough that in less than ninety years, one of America’s largest cities will be a ghost town?
Yes, yes it is. Read the rest of this entry »
Time to get the ball rolling on the religious side of Polite Conversation.
I used to be a religious man, but somewhere along the road, I lost my way. That somewhere was at my third job, where I met Devon.
Devon and I were both Christian. Devon however, had apparently logged much more hours and had leveled up a few times to the rank of Super Christian.
Yes, it’s true that renewable energy and more fuel efficient vehicles will probably be the driving forces behind America’s slow crawl to economic redemption, but where are these wonderful marvels of technology? They’re in development, that’s where. The few that are around are either ineffective or far too expensive to be any kind of boost to the ailing consumer goods market.
Luckily, that’s not the type of green I have in mind. Read the rest of this entry »
